THE RACE TO OPEN SAFELY…SCHECK HILLEL CALLS FOR FELLOW SCHOOLS TO COLLABORATE

PROBLEM:
The South Florida community is facing one of the most daunting challenges in modern history: safely reopening schools, both public and private, for hundreds of thousands of students and their teachers at the peak of the current COVID-19 global crisis.

SOLUTION:
As one community, any and every individual action directly impacts the safety and wellbeing of everyone in South Florida. There is a short window of time (4-6 weeks), until most schools reopen.  At this point, there is very little time to “plan;” it’s all about EXECUTION.

Scheck Hillel believes that its model can be adapted to every school for a more successful (i.e., SAFE) return to in-person learning.

“We are all responsible for one another, and it’s ONLY THROUGH OPEN-SOURCING this process that we ALL have a chance to not only support our respective students, faculty and families, but to each do our part in minimizing the impact of COVID-19 in South Florida,” said Vanessa Donaher, Head of Scheck Hillel Community School. In sharing the reasoning behind Scheck Hillel’s return to school plans, the school asks others to apply this thinking to advance South Florida’s collective efforts to return to in-person learning.

OUR REQUEST OF YOU:
Scheck Hillel Community School has published detailed plans that move from general recommendations to specific approaches for age groups from early childhood through Grade 12. Please share these plans widely, to encourage all schools to share their resources and ideas toward common goals: to bring our children safely back to in-person learning (while executing the best possible virtual learning experience) and keep them on campus for as long as possible, where they learn best.

Below is a link to Scheck Hillel’s staggered plan (published July 2), which overlays onto the rest of the school’s logic/plans. We are also including the links to Q&A recordings with Vanessa Donaher (shot in the evening hours on Thursday, June 15 and Sunday, June 28). Beginning this Monday, July 7, Scheck Hillel invites everyone to Zoom into Scheck Hillel’s Command Center (eHillel.org/LionLens): Live, in real-time and unfiltered. In doing so, Scheck Hillel wants to hear your ideas, incorporate your feedback, and answer whatever questions you might have.

COLLABORATION = BEST OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL OF US TO SUCCEED

STAGGERED RETURN PLAN HIGHLIGHTS

As schools continue to identify emerging strategies and tools, Scheck Hillel is committed to sharing their insights.
SCHECK HILLEL’S STAGGERED PLAN reflects the school’s strengthened planning, which allows the school to, among other things:
  • Enhance the health and safety of its students, employees, families and entire community by practicing and perfecting new protocols, reducing potential exposure by having fewer people on campus, and minimizing the school’s COVID-19 impact on the South Florida community.
  • Deliver the highest quality academic product and user experience by allowing for real-life professional development for faculty, students and parents;and improving both in-person and online platforms in real-time.

*If you are only able to watch one of these Q&As, watch the Middle School session, which addresses the most poignant questions.
