Tips for Returning to In-Person Learning

As our younger students get ready to return to campus, parents can help them prepare for a smooth transition. Here are some tips:

  • Use positive language regarding returning to school; reassure children that they will be safe.
  • Let your child know that you trust that school and teachers are doing all they can to protect and keep them safe, based on the instructions from doctors and medical experts.
  • Review the Commitment to Community with your children and discuss why it's so important to follow the guidelines.
  • At home, practice using the mask they will be using in school for longer periods of time. Let them know that they will have breaks during the day when they are outdoors.
  • Allow for and empathize with first-day jitters…we all get them!
  • Tell children not to worry about making a mistake once they are on campus. If they forget about a new rule, or are not sure about something, teachers will be there to help and guide.
  • Return to the home  routines that you and your children developed and are comfortable with.
  • Allow children to enjoy “no mask” time after school hours
  • Remind children that we are all on the same team...parents, students, teachers, administrators and staff, and we are taking care of each other by following the safety guidelines and protocols.
