Scheck Hillel Welcomes New Lower School Faculty

Dear Friends,
At our 2018 Annual Meeting, we reflected and looked ahead. The evening offered a wonderful opportunity to announce the addition of impressive educators who have joined our roster of faculty, to begin working this summer.

In our Juda and Maria Diener Lower School, my focus for today’s message, we welcome Dror Karavani as our Director of Judaic Studies & Hebrew Language for Kindergarten-Grade 5: the role that had been fulfilled by our dear friend, Yuval Miara, z”l. With more than 20 years of experience in Israel and the United States, Mr. Karavani has his master’s degree in education from Lander College, Israel. He joins us from Columbus Torah Academy in Ohio, where for many years he served in a similar position.

Our youngest students will also benefit from new teachers, whose degrees and experience are specific to education and whose core values reflect those of Scheck Hillel. Highlights follow; we’ll share more in the weeks ahead.
Shoshana Mitrani '04: This Scheck Hillel alumna returns home with a background in early childhood education. Certified to teach pre-Kindergarten and primary education, Shoshana Mitrani earned her bachelor’s degree in early childhood education at Florida International University, from where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. She joins us from Torah Academy of Boca Raton.

Talia Berner: With her master’s degree in education from Universidad Anahuac North, Mexico, Talia Berner holds credentials as an Early Childhood Director and a Child Development Associate. She is certified to teach Reggio Emilia and Montessori methods of education, both of which influence Scheck Hillel's Early Childhood Education program. Mrs. Berner previously taught at the Eton School and RASG Hebrew Academy.
Jennifer Moreinis: Scheck Hillel has always been home for this mother of two alumni and one current student. Jenny Moreinis has her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Brandeis University and 16 years of professional early childhood education experience. Mrs. Moreinis previously taught at Jacobson Sinai Academy.
Scheck Hillel’s priority to attract the finest faculty and staff continues, enriching our tradition of empowering students with an exceptional Jewish education fostered by expert educators. With growth, we have created new positions. We also wish the best to those who will not be teaching here next year, succeeded by new faculty. As I wrote in May to introduce Carlos Montero as our Science Department Chair and physics teacher, please join me in giving these new community members a warm Hillel is Home welcome. Expect more updates this summer as, together, we approach the new school year, building Jewish future.
With thanks,
Vanessa Donaher
