Scheck Hillel Students Earn National Writing Awards

Mazal tov to Scheck Hillel Community School students Sofia Braun ‘24, Jessica Kiblisky ‘23, Joelle Kirsch ‘23, Alan Strulovic ‘23 and Moises Sutton ‘23 for winning 2023 Achievement Awards in Writing, presented by the National Council of Teachers of English. All are members of Scheck Hillel’s National English Honor Society.

The NCTE Achievement Awards in Writing is a school-based writing program established in 1957 to encourage high school juniors to write and to recognize some of the best student writers in the nation. Schools in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, US territories, Canada, and American schools abroad are eligible to nominate students for the writing program.

Scheck Hillel’s Upper School English/Language Arts program infuses writing across subjects so students become effective users of language, information and ideas. Students are exposed to literature across genres and write essays that include all facets of the writing process. Contests such as this one motivate students and reward writing excellence on a national level. Congratulations to the writers and their teacher, Hilary Brownstein!
