Varsity Boys' Basketball Head to Memphis

The Scheck Hillel boys' varsity basketball team will begin its preseason on the road participating in the Cooper Yeshiva High School National Invitational Basketball Tournament, October 31-November 4, in Memphis, Tennessee.
The Lions are taking part in the tournament for the third time under head coach Craig Mankoff.

"I am excited about this tournament," said Coach Mankoff. "We have four of our starters returning from last season and a good group of juniors that I am looking forward to seeing what they can do."

Coach Mankoff isays players like seniors Aaron Ben-Shmuel and Yaniv Assraf have been working hard to improve their game and it shows.

Over the last few weeks, the team has been practicing nonstop to prepare for not only this invitational but the upcoming season. With such a strong group of juniors the team is looking forward to building a strong offense and defense going into the season.

This tournament helps give the coaches a good look at their players in competition and it also helps that they are getting a head start on the competition by preparing for this trip.

The tournament is the second largest yeshiva high school athletic event in North America and was founded to provide young men from across the country an opportunity to meet, interact, learn from, and develop friendships with, their counterparts across the country.

The Lions' first game is against Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School, Thursday, November 1, at 1pm (12pm central time). You can check out the broadcast and find schedules at www.cooperinvitational.com.
