Student Achievement

Grade 8 student Samuel Merenfeld developed an interest in rowing after spending years at regattas watching his older brother train and compete. In April this year, Samuel and his teammate won a silver medal in the FSRA Sculling State Championships in Sarasota, on a double boat in the freshman category, rowing against the top 18 boats. A few weeks later, Samuel and seven teammates won bronze in the FSRA Sweeping State Championships. He then made it to the 2018 USRowing Southeast Youth Championships, where he rowed along with his teammates in an 8-person boat in the under-17 category and earned second place! These events take place every year in April, when over 40 teams and 2,000 athletes come together to compete.

Isack Merenfeld, Samuel's father, said, “His efforts paid off as he and his partners won silver at the Sculling State championship in the Double Freshmen category, being both eighth-graders its an even greater accomplishment as they compete against ninth graders. With Sammy’s determination and Scheck Hillel's support, Sammy will continue to succeed in the future.” Kol Hakavod!
