Microscopes Help Students See the Bigger Picture

Grade 9 students in Wilford Miranda's biology classes are practicing new techniques to use microscopes effectively. As they delve into the natural world, students are learning how to prepare a wet-mount slide, measure the diameter of a field of view and estimate the size of objects. Mr. Miranda noted that each new technology invites students to ask more questions to ultimately develop scientific knowledge.

Grade 9 biology is a laboratory science course that enables students to review and practice the scientific principles as they develop an appreciation for the processes important to life. They examine chemical and cellular concepts common to all living things and gain an understanding of the vast diversity of living things and their adaptations to the environment. Using the microscope correctly is central to these explorations.
