Acting Up: Hannah Stern '22 Takes her Craft to New Levels

Scheck Hillel students took time this summer to challenge themselves through special courses, service projects and work experiences. Hannah Stern '22 had an eventful summer, first as talent on the set of "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel," the Amazon Studios TV comedy/drama series, and later as a participant in the Brandeis University BIMA Jewish Arts Program - an intensive pre-college theatre workshop. "I want to express my appreciation for Scheck Hillel's nomination for me to attend the Brandeis program. The experience was amazing and I'm grateful that I had the opportunity to participate."

Hannah Stern's action-packed summer began on the set of "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel," which was recorded in South Florida this summer. "The show takes place in the 1950's," Hannah explained. "It was fascinating to be immersed in the time period. The vintage costumes and sets were mesmerizing, and I even had to cut my hair in a 50's style."

She then traded set for stage to participate in the BIMA  program at Brandeis University: "Brandeis gave me the opportunity to take technique and master classes with guest artists. I took trips to see professional Boston theatre and learned and performed a cappella, stand-up comedy, and various scenes. At the end of the program, I collaborated with other students to devise, rehearse and perform an original theatrical work. We performed our show as part of BIMA's Showcase Arts Festival." It was an unforgettable experience for Hannah, enhanced by the lifelong friendships she made.
