Scheck Hillel Welcomes Distinguished Science Educator to Faculty

Advancing Scheck Hillel Community School’s academic mission includes attracting the best teachers. We are pleased to share that Mr. Carlos Montero, a nationally-recognized science educator, will be joining us this summer as Grade 6-12 Science Department Chair and physics teacher. Mr. Montero will collaborate with our science faculty to continue strengthening standards of teaching and learning in the sciences. He brings to Scheck Hillel his leadership in the field of “modeling” a pedagogy we can describe as “learning science by doing science.”
Mr. Montero's appointment exemplifies Scheck Hillel’s priority to attract faculty and staff of the highest caliber. His dedication to teaching quality and his background as a presenter in science forums have brought him national recognition. He received from President Barack Obama the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching, and he is a national Chemistry Reader for the Advanced Placement (AP) exam, a Miami Dade County Science Teacher of the Year, and a former Executive Board Member of the American Modeling Teachers Association. Mr. Montero comes to Scheck Hillel from NSU University School, where he served as a department chair and teacher.
We are proud and excited that Mr. Montero has chosen Scheck Hillel as his teaching home. When he joins us on campus this summer, please be sure to give him a warm Hillel is Home welcome. We look forward to sharing more news throughout the weeks ahead as, together, we approach the new school year within this next chapter of building Jewish future, ever-advancing Scheck Hillel forward and further.
