Scheck Hillel Applauds Silver Knight Award Nominees
 
North Miami Beach, Fla. -- Seven Scheck Hillel seniors have been nominated for the 2018 Silver Knight Awards, adding to the year's growing list of student achievements. The Miami Herald Silver Knight Awards is one of the nation’s most highly regarded student awards programs. Congratulations to Michelle Elovic(Vocational/Technical), Hannah Fiske (English), Nathalie Fuhrman (Dance/Music), Rachelle Murciano(Athletics), Lily Schmutter (Art), Simi Serfati (General Scholarship) and Shirel Wainer (Mathematics).
 
 
 
"We are so proud of our 2018 Silver Knight nominees, recognizing achievement in and beyond the classroom, all guided by values central to Scheck Hillel," said Dr. Ezra Levy, Scheck Hillel's Head of School. "These students are making their mark by making a difference."
 
Scheck Hillel students are shining at national and state levels this year. Silver Knight nominees join the school’s 30 AP Scholars, four students recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program and the musicians who advanced to State and earned special recognition in the Solo & Ensemble band competition.
 
Last spring, Leehie Bortman, '17, won the 2017 Silver Knight Award-Honorable Mention for Digital & Interactive Media. She now studies advertising and illustration at Florida International University.
 
About Silver Knight Awards
For nearly 60 years, the Miami Herald has presented the Silver Knight Awards to some of South Florida’s highest-achieving teenagers for their unparalleled commitment to academics and community service. The purpose of the Awards is to recognize outstanding students who have maintained good grades and have unselfishly applied their knowledge and talents to contribute significant service to their schools and communities. Winners will be announced in May 2018 at the James L. Knight Center. Silver Knights receive a $2,000 cash prize, a Silver Knight statue and a medallion presented by American Airlines.
