Grade 5 Author Publishes Book

Kobi Backer ‘29 started writing a book when he was 7. At 11, he finally saw his hard work pay off: He’s the published author of “The Boy Who Could Read.”

Kobi’s book was inspired by his own experience. His struggles with reading and managing emotions led his family to find helpful resources and support at Scheck Hillel. The book tells how, through hard work, Kobi turned into a reader. He’s sharing his story because he is grateful for “such a great education” and because there are lessons to be learned from his experience.

When asked what advice he has for other children who’d like to write a book, he suggested, “Find a quiet place where you can just write. You can edit afterward.” He added, “Don’t give up. I had to wait a long time…I’m 11 now!”

We are so proud of Kobi and wish him the best as he continues to share his story.
