National Merit Scholarship Program Names 2021 Finalists and Commended Students

Scheck Hillel Community School seniors Anna Freiman ‘21 and Ilana Stiberman ‘21 have been recognized as National Merit Semifinalists in the 2021 National Merit® Scholarship Program, part of a nationwide pool that represents less than 1% of U.S. high school seniors. Tanya Almog '21 and Leonardo Bentata '21 were named National Merit Commended Students placing among the top scorers of more than 1.5 million students who entered the competition by taking the 2019 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®).

Tanya, Leonardo, Ana and Ilana were recently recognized by the College Board as 2020 AP Scholars with Distinction by earning an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. In addition, Ana also was named a National AP Scholar by earning an average score of at least 4 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams. 

Scheck Hillel is honored to have graduated a significant roster of National Merit Scholars, Finalists, Semifinalists and Commended Students, and to carry the tradition into 2021. Most recently, Gabrielle Kurzer '20 and Alex Wagenberg '20 were named National Merit Commended students. Raquel DiMitri, Class of 2019 valedictorian, received a National Merit University of Miami Scholarship. Raquel is enrolled in the University of Miami’s Foote Fellows Honors Program. Nathalie Fuhrman, Scheck Hillel’s Class of 2018 valedictorian, received the National Merit Northwestern University Scholarship. Her peers - Keith Bonwitt, Roy Glazer and Max Peicher - were named 2018 National Merit Commended Students. Keith attends the University of Pennsylvania, Roy studies at the  University of Maryland, and Max attends Tufts University. Jordana Zackon, Class of 2017 valedictorian, was also named a National Merit Commended Student and attends Washington University in St. Louis. Scheck Hillel's 2016 salutatorian, Ariel Gelrud, was a National Merit Scholar and is a recent graduate of the University of Pennsylvania.
