Football Falls Short In Homecoming Game

The Scheck Hillel varsity football team dropped it's second match of the season to Inlet Grove 6-40, Thursday, September 28th.
In front of a crowd of about 500 people, the Lions took on the Hurricanes in a Homecoming battle.

In the first quarter Inlet Grove came out strong right away with a long run into the endzone. A nine-yard pass from junior quarterback Brian Mars to junior Daniel Strimber tied the game at six.

Turnovers and incomplete passes plagued the Lions in the second quarter and the Hurricanes used that to their advantage scoring 18 points for a 24-6 lead going into the half.

During halftime seniors Victor Giliniski, David Ezekiel, Ezra Newfield, Jonathan Woldenberg, Josh Exposito, Benjamin Brener and Daniel Petichenskiy along with seven other student-athletes were honored alongside their families for the contributions to their teams.

After the half the Hurricanes scored the only points in the third quarter taking a 34-6 lead. Battling the scoreboard and the rain, the Lions came up short in the end.

Mars finished with 80 passing yards and rushed for 16-yards. Junior Larin Vaknin finished with 62 overall yard including a 25-yard run.

Defensively Sophomore Jose Galante finished with two fumble recoveries and two tackles. Brener also had a fumble recovery for the Lions. Juniors Ben Wolf and Chaim Cohen along with Exposito each had three tackles a piece.

The Lions return to action Tuesday, October 3rd against Somerset Pines Academy.
