Adding Drama to Literature, Grade 8 Goes to the Theatre

After reading works in class by Edgar Allan Poe, W.W. Jacobs and Guy de Maupassant, Jason Touvi's Grade 8 English Honors class took a trip to the Chamber Theater in Miami to watch these works come alive on stage. Dramatic representations of "The Tell-Tale Heart," The Monkey's Paw" "The Necklace" and others gave our students the chance to compare and contrast genres, and to find unique insights in each version.

"Their glimpses into timeless human experiences were enhanced by these stage representations," Touvi said.

A trip to the theatre is an example of the extended academic opportunities students enjoy at Scheck Hillel. Tied to curriculum goals, these outings help students make connections between what they study in the classroom and the cultural platforms that extend and make learning exciting.
