Scheck Hillel Boys' Basketball Places 5th in Cooper Invitational

The Scheck Hillel boys' varsity basketball team finished with a 3-1 record during the Cooper Invitational in Memphis, Tennessee, November 1-4.
The Lions took on the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School Lions in its first match of the tournament. Scheck Hillel was able to pull off a 39-30 win over their opponent. 

The Lions had two players finish in the double digits including senior Aaron Ben-Shmuel who led the team with 14 points and junior Samuel Taieb who added 10. Junior Alan Berkman contributed seven points for the Lions in the win.

In game two of the tournament for the Lions, the team took on the #1 seeded Magen David Warriors. The Warriors handed the Lions their only lost of the tournament with a final score of 35-61.

Berkman and junior Myles Gilbert each scored double digits for Hillel. Berkman led the team with 14 points will Gilbert added 13. 

The Lions grabbed another win their third matchup of the tournament against Milken Community School defeating the Wildcast 52-35. 

Berkman had another great scoring game finishing with a personal-best 24 point in the win. Seniors Yaniv Assraf and Ben-Shmuel added 14 and 13 points respectively. 

In their final matchup of the tournament the Lions took on the Rambam Mestiva Ravens. What continued to be a close game most of the time ended up in favor of the Lions 49-40. 

Ben-Shmuel scored a team-high 11 points and junior Jaime Acherman added seven. Assraf, Berkman and Taieb each put up six points while Gilbert and senior Andres Bacal both added five. 

Berkman finished the tournament with 51 total points and was named to the All-Tournament team as an All-Star.  Defensively the Lions played great. Taieb and Abbo dominated in the paint and led the team with rebounds and Ben-Shmuel also grabbed a bunch of boards at guard.
