Scheck Hillel Senior Named National Merit Semifinalist
North Miami Beach, Fla. – Scheck Hillel Community School senior Raquel Dimitri has been named a National Merit Semifinalist, part of a nationwide pool that represents less than 1% of U.S. high school seniors.
Raquel also was recently recognized by the College Board as a 2018 AP Scholars with Distinction.
Raquel is a Jaime and Raquel Gilinski Hillel Ambassador, president of the National Honor Society, co-editor of Scheck Hillel's Literary Magazine and a member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society. She also plays the trumpet in Scheck Hillel’s band and competes on the school's varsity volleyball and varsity tennis teams. For community service, she volunteers with Achieve Miami, among other organizations.
Scheck Hillel is honored to have graduated a significant roster of students recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program and to carry the tradition into 2019. Most recently, Nathalie Fuhrman, Class of 2018 valedictorian, who now attends Northwestern University, received the National Merit Northwestern University Scholarship; Jordana Zackon, Class of 2017 valedictorian, was named a National Merit Commended Student and currently attends Washington University in St. Louis; and Scheck Hillel's 2016 salutatorian, Ariel Gelrud, was a National Merit Scholar and attends the University of Pennsylvania.

About the National Merit Scholarship Program
NMSC, a not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance, was established in 1955 specifically to conduct the annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Scholarships are underwritten by NMSC with its own funds and by approximately 410 business organizations and higher education institutions that share NMSC’s goals of honoring the nation’s scholastic champions and encouraging the pursuit of academic excellence. The academically talented high school seniors chosen as semifinalists have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $31 million that will be offered next spring. Over 90 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and about half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title.
