Robotics Festival

More than 300 students from local Jewish schools gathered at Scheck Hillel Community School April 26 for the Second Annual Miami Jewish Day Schools Robotics Festival. The Diener Athletic Center bustled with activity as students showcased what they learned all year in the Robotics program: an initiative funded by a grant from the Miami/Yerucham Partnership and facilitated by the Center for the Advancement of Jewish Education (CAJE), a subsidiary agency of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation.

Student teams put their programming skills to the test on Lego Mindstorm "fields," and were judged on performance in seven tasks, from freeing robots to launching satellites into orbit. Facilitators from Yerucham also led team-building and creative activities. Grade 4 students Leanne Aligem and Eden Edelbaum offered tours of the competition area, underscoring Lion Pride and the value of hachnasat orchim, welcoming guests.

Participating schools included Brauser Maimonides Academy, Gordon School of Beth David Congregation, Hebrew Academy (RASG), Hochberg Preparatory – a David Posnack Jewish Day School, Lehrman Community Day School, Scheck Hillel Community School, Temple Beth Am Day School, Yeshiva Elementary School and Yeshiva Toras Chaim Toras Emes. It was an honor for Scheck Hillel to host!

Thank you to Scheck Hillel’s incredible faculty, guided by Nancy Penchev, I Lab teacher, and Nilam Pitel, science teacher.

As part of Scheck Hillel's ongoing commitment to STEM education, the school will be hosting another conference this Sunday: the 4th Annual CIJE (Center for Initiatives in Jewish Education) Young Engineers Conference. Look for the story in next week's Shabbat Shalom Message!
