Scheck Hillel Senior to Join Cornell University’s Fencing Team

North Miami Beach, Fla. – Scheck Hillel Community School student-athlete Esther Bentolila‘18, will join Cornell University’s varsity fencing team this fall. She was recognized at Scheck Hillel’s National Signing Day ceremony on February 7, 2018.

Bentolila started fencing at Scheck Hillel when she was eight years old and competes with the ALLE club team in Davie. In 2014, she won the national championship in her age category and, by age 16, she won the silver medal at the Cadet World Cup in Germany. Esther’s impressive track record has included several national and international titles.

“I'm very thankful for all the support from the Scheck Hillel community, my family and my coach,” Bentolila said. “I’m blessed to have found a passion in the sport of fencing and look forward to a bright future ahead.”

“We congratulate Esther and thank her for inspiring all of us to go for gold,” commented Cindy Lyon, Scheck Hillel’s Athletics Director. “With strong values and identity, she is a role model for our younger students. We look forward to seeing her succeed in her collegiate career.”

National Signing Day ceremonies are held throughout the country for the young men and women who intend to compete at the highest athletic level at a NCAA Division I institution. Esther joins fellow Scheck Hillel student-athletes who have graduated to compete at the college level in sports like soccer, fencing, tennis and football.

Esther’s Cornell acceptance adds to the list of top tier schools where Scheck Hillel seniors have been offered admission this year: University of Pennsylvania, University of Michigan, Tulane University, Babson College, Syracuse University, University of Central Florida and Washington University in St. Louis, among others.
