Ben-Shmuel Leads Lions to Victory in Double Overtime
The Scheck Hillel boys' varsity basketball team defeated Hebrew Academy in double overtime 51-48, Thursday, November 30th.
Junior Aaron Ben-Shmuel led all players with 20 points in the victory over the Warriors.
The Lions outscored their opponent 9-2 in the first quarter to gain an early lead but Hebrew battle back in the next two outscoring Hillel 26-12 to take a 28-21 lead going into the fourth.
The Lions were successful behind the free throw line in the fourth quarter and managed to get back in the game and tie up the score to force an overtime.
Hillel scored right away in the extra period leading by as much as seven at one point. Back to back 3-pointers from the Warriors tied the game for again forcing the game to go into double-over time. Ben-Shmuel and senior Benjamin Brener shots behind the free throw line proved allowed the Lions to pull ahead and take home the victory.
Brener finished the night with 12 points while senior Sual Taieb scored eight. Junior Yaniv Assraf also added seven points for the Lions in the win.
Hillel travels to Katz Yeshiva High School, Tuesday, December 5th for a 6:30 p.m. start.
