PK4 Explores the World of Authors

PK4 has been busy learning all about authors and the books they write! We peeked into a few classes to find students working on stories inspired by several children's authors.

In one class, students read books by author Mo Willems, and followed Willems' step-by-step writing process to write their own books, from selecting a character to developing a plot to illustrating the story. In another class, students explored books by David Shannon ("No, David") and created artwork connected to the book. Their teacher emailed the artwork to the author and received a reply from him: "I love it," said Mr. Shannon. "It's kind of a cross between "No, David" and "A Bad Case of Stripes! Thanks for sending it." The children were so excited! Building pre-literacy skills is central to Scheck Hillel's Early Childhood curriculum, fostering a love of reading and storytelling through authorship.
