Scheck Hillel Commemorates 9/11

A turning point in American and world history, the events of 9/11 left an indelible mark on minds and hearts. For our students, who had not been born yet in 2001, our campus commemorations told the story and its lessons.

Our Ben Lipson Upper School (Grades 6-12) gathered for prayer and learning in ceremonies that included student readings, reflections from division heads Josh Meisels and Christopher Johnson as well as a testimonial from Rabbi Avi Greene, who lived in New York at the time. Head of School Rabbi Ari Leubitz reminded students about the light in every person, and of our ability to use that light for good. Rabbinic Head Rabbi Shlomo Sprung reminded us to protect the freedoms we enjoy, and Rabbi Elias Hochner and Rabbi Elie Ganz led us in prayer for those we lost. Our Jordan Alexander Ressler Arts Program band and orchestra set the tone with a performance of "God Bless America."

Thank you to Upper School Social Studies Department Chair Erica Cullen for organizing these meaningful ceremonies, to Student Life Director Oded Karavani and to the students and faculty who participated.
