Scheck Hillel Hosts Robotics Festival

Robotics teams from nine area Jewish day schools gathered this week at Scheck Hillel as part of the CAJE Miami Jewish Dade Day School Robotics Festival, in collaboration with the Yerucham Science Center in Israel.

Scheck Hillel’s Grade 5 robotics team won the Innovation Project Award, researched and led by Itai Miara ‘29 and focused on using robots to place, move, and clean solar panels on space stations. Team members included Shayne Abramovitz, Alberto Cohen, Adrian Grimberg, Elio Kameo, Bentzi Meisels, Gabriel Renner, Daniel Resler and Elad Rubenstein, all ‘29.

Our Grade 6 Robotics Team won the Derech Eretz Award, a challenge that involved using 21st Century Skills of creativity, communication and collaboration to solve a problem: the entire team stood on a tarp and had to flip it over without stepping off. The team's solution to a traffic challenge was to reduce street parking by moving cars underground to open up driving lanes. They also completed various missions with the Lego Driving Base under time constraints. Team members were Josef Berl, Ben Cohen, Mijal Furman, Sophia Gruszka, Naomi Nir, Jose Toledo and Valeria Toussieh, all ‘28.

Participating schools included Brauser Maimonides Academy, The Gordon School, Hochberg Preparatory School - Posnack East, Lehrman Community Day School, Lubavitch Educational Center, Scheck Hillel Community School, Yeshiva Elementary School and Yeshiva Toras Chaim Toras Emes.

Thank you to Scheck Hillel’s incredible Design/STEM faculty Nancy Penchev and Alex Brown for leading the teams.
