Five Students Place in Top Ten of National STEM Contest

Five Class of ‘25 students have placed among the top 10 entries in the "Make the Change" Challenge: a national competition that calls upon students in Jewish day schools to solve accessibility problems through design, engineering and empathy. Out of 100 national entries, half of the top 10 students are Scheck Hillel Lions! Sahhar Azulay placed in the top five, and the following students placed in the top 10: Shena Aghion, Ben Gililov, Raymond Gani and Benjamin Herschman. They were all guided by Elana Lazar ‘98, Scheck Hillel’s Design/STEM department chair.

Sahhar rose to the top five with her Myxable innovation: a device that enables people with muscle weakness to enjoy baking and decorating cakes with ease. In Scheck Hillel's Design/STEM program, students learn design principles and connect their work to real-life challenges. Sahhar's submission was inspired by her cousin's struggle with Spinal Muscular Atrophy. View her Myxable presentation here

The contest was hosted by ADI - Israel’s provider of residential care for individuals with severe disabilities - during Jewish Disability Awareness, Acceptance and Inclusion month.
