Welcome, New Faculty!

Meet the five new faculty members joining Scheck Hillel in the Ben Lipson Upper School and the Samuel and Henrietta Scheck Middle School. As they prepare to meet their students, they’ve shared their thoughts below.

Scheck Hillel Community School is pleased to welcome Jennifer Abreu, M.S., Ed.S., as Director of College Counseling. Ms. Abreu joins Scheck Hillel from NIST International School in Bangkok, Thailand, where she was Head of College Counseling.
"I am excited to begin working with our Scheck Hillel students and their families! I cannot wait to start helping them with their college essays and narrowing down their college lists. While we may not be able to meet in person, my door is still always open, now it just happens to be in my Zoom meeting room!"

Scheck Hillel Community School is pleased to welcome Maria Cartolano, Ph.D., as a new Upper School biology teacher. Dr. Cartolano brings extensive teaching and research experience throughout her studies at University of Miami's Rosenstiel School Marine & Atmospheric Science.
“I am excited to teach at Scheck Hillel so I can instill an appreciation and enthusiasm for science in my students. With the close-knit community and resources that Hillel provides, I look forward to forming connections with my students to make scientific concepts and research accessible and exciting. By sharing my passion for science, I hope to inspire students to ask questions about the world around them and teach them how to think critically so they can be the next generation to improve our world.”

Scheck Hillel Community School is pleased to welcome Ravit Prezelmayer, M.A., as a Middle School English teacher. She joins us from the Hebrew Academy in New York, where she was the English Department Chair.
“I am extremely excited to be a part of the Scheck Hillel family where my educational journey can continue to thrive in a top-rated school and a warm, caring environment. I look forward to a successful year of teaching and learning!”

Scheck Hillel Community School is pleased to welcome Jennifer Ramsey, Ed.D., as an Upper School mathematics teacher. Dr. Ramsey joins us from DR Hill Middle School in South Carolina, where she taught Grade 7 and 8 Math, Grade 7 Algebra 1 and Grade 8 Algebra 2.
“As I begin my 25th year in education I am fortunate to be a part of the Scheck Hillel community. I began my educational career as a high school mathematics teacher then later moved to the middle grades. I am thrilled to return to my teaching roots with the Upper School!  When I began my journey of locating the school I knew would be the best fit for me, Scheck Hillel was top on my list. I loved reading and hearing about the family community and culture Hillel has built over 50 years. Education is a partnership. I am blessed to share my experience and passion for learning with the students of Scheck Hillel and I am looking forward to how the school community will enrich my own life.”

Scheck Hillel Community School is pleased to welcome Esther Wolff-Hecht, M.S., as an Upper School calculus teacher. She joins us from Academy of Notre Dame in Villanova, Pennsylvania, where she taught calculus and pre-calculus.
“I am so excited to join the Hillel community! I just moved here from the Philadelphia area with my husband and four kids, all of whom are excited to G-d willing attend Hillel along with me. I've been teaching calculus and pre-calculus for the past few years and I'm so happy to come "home" to this school that values the best parts of Judaism and academia. My goal as a teacher is to awaken a curiosity within my students that drives them to learn everything they can to achieve their goals.”

We wish them all the best and look forward to greeting them in person soon! B'Hatzlacha - wishing you much success!
