Scheck Hillel Students Recognized for Academic Excellence

The prestigous National Merit Scholarship Program and the College Board have announced the names of Scheck Hillel students recognized for their academic achievement.  

Scheck Hillel Community School Juniors
Tanya Almog, Leonardo Bentata, Anna Freiman and Ilana Stiberman have qualified to enter the 2021 National Merit® Scholarship Program by scoring in the nation’s top 50,000 from more than 1.5 million program entrants. Students across the country enter the competition by taking the 2019 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®).  

From this national pool of students, about 16,000 will be named National Merit Scholarship Program Semifinalists, representing the top scorers in each state. Semifinalists will have an opportunity to continue in the competition for about 7,600 Merit Scholarship® awards to be offered in 2021. 

In addition,Tanya, Leonardo, Anna and Scheck Hillel Juniors Nicole Feldman and Mauricio Fuhrmanhave been invited to participate in the College Board National Recognition Program (CBRP) by scoring in the top 2.5% on the PSAT/NMSQT among high school Junior test-takers in the region among those who qualify.

Scheck Hillel is honored to have graduated a significant roster of National Merit Scholars, Finalists, Semifinalists and Commended Students, and to carry the tradition into 2020. Most recently, Scheck Hillel Seniors Gabrielle Kurzer '20 (will attend Northwestern University) and Alex Wagenberg '20 (will attend University of Florida) were named 2020 National Merit Commended Students and College Board National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholars. Raquel DiMitri, Class of 2019 valedictorian, received a National Merit University of Miami Scholarship. Raquel is enrolled in the University of Miami’s Foote Fellows Honors Program. Nathalie Fuhrman, Scheck Hillel’s Class of 2018 valedictorian, received the National Merit Northwestern University Scholarship. Her peers - Keith Bonwitt, Roy Glazer and Max Peicher - were named 2018 National Merit Commended Students. Keith attends the University of Pennsylvania, Roy studies at the University of Maryland, and Max attends Tufts University. Jordana Zackon, Class of 2017 valedictorian, was also named a National Merit Commended Student and attends Washington University in St. Louis. Scheck Hillel's 2016 salutatorian, Ariel Gelrud, was a National Merit Scholar and next week will graduate with Honors from the University of Pennsylvania.
