Enhanced Programming: Language & Motor Skills

The language and motor skills enrichment program is back for PK3 and PK4! Students are excited to be practicing foundational skills with the specialists they already know.

The language enrichment program is designed to enhance vocabulary, story comprehension and expressive language skills, and is led by speech and language specialist Moran Lev-Ary, M.S. This week, students re-enacted the story “We’re Going On A Bear Hunt,” and brought a flashlight, backpack and binoculars to the adventure. They also practiced letter-sound recognition as a pre-reading skill.

In the area of fine motor skills, students engage with occupational therapist Laura Caldea to strengthen the hand and fingers, improve pincer grasp, bilateral coordination, dexterity via in-hand manipulation activities and more. PK4 students work on correct pencil grasp patterns as well as handwriting skills with emphasis on correct letter formation.

The aim of these enrichment classes is to increase opportunities for developing key foundational skills as the children move into more complex academic learning tasks. Students just love these classes because they have fun while they’re learning!
