Scheck Hillel Adds College Course

As part of Scheck Hillel's college dual enrollment partnership with Florida International University (FIU), the college has certified our own Physical Education Department Chair Elizabeth Morgan to teach Foundations of Fitness, a college-credit class, on our campus. Five students enrolled in the class this school year are Daniel Abbo '22, Tanya Almog '21, Daniel Eidelstein '22, Daniel Tal '21 and Keren Vainstein '22.

The course includes hands-on practice in the fitness center as well as classroom discussion and reading focused on the science of fitness. From measuring cardiorespiratory endurance and flexibility to designing a lifetime fitness training program, our students acquire a range of competencies to take charge of their own health.

As part of Scheck Hillel's schoolwide focus to create accelerated learning opportunities across grade levels, Scheck Hillel and FIU's dual enrollment program allows students to take college-level courses on the FIU campus in a variety of subjects. Examples include Psychology of Adolescence, Government and Economics, Public Speaking, Hospitality Management, and more. Students may take a class as an elective or to fulfill a Scheck Hillel requirement. All classes are free of charge and confer college credit.

According to Scheck Hillel High School Counselor Lauren Berley '98, students take a dual enrollment class each semester. "This is a great opportunity for our students to maximize academic potential and explore fields of interest."
