Scheck Hillel Celebrates Class of 2019 Commencement

Nearly 1,400 community friends gathered at the Diener Athletic Center on May 21 to celebrate the graduation of Scheck Hillel’s Ben Lipson Upper School Class of 2019. The Class of 2019 is filled with talented and compassionate students accepted to amazing colleges, universities, yeshivot and gap year programs across the country and Israel, including Babson, Cornell, Duke, University of Florida, IDC Herzliya, Yeshiva Mayanot, Vanderbilt, University of Michigan and others.

Dr. Ezra Levy, Rabbinic Head, welcomed an audience of family, friends, faculty and community leaders with a Siyum and a personalized Yeverechecha blessing for the graduates. Board of Governors Chair Uri Benhamron recognized the many graduates who have attended our school from the start, and Director of Jewish Life and Community Learning Rabbi Shlomo Sprung urged his students to maintain Jewish practice and Jewish values despite the challenges they'll eventually face away from home and Hillel.

Graduates were represented by Valedictorian Raquel DiMitri (Foote Fellows Honors Program, University of Miami); Salutatorian Matias Lancewicki (Cornell University, Mayanot Institute of Jewish Studies); Student Government Co-Presidents Joseph Bensabat (University of Florida) and Sarah Savir (Bar Ilan University), and Senior Class Co-Presidents Amanda Scheck (University of Michigan, Young Judaea Year Course) and Benjamin Wolf (University of Texas, Austin). Each student shared perspectives - both personal and universal - with great aplomb, humor and gratitude, and with the determination to make their families and their school proud.
