Scheck Hillel Students to Teach Florida History

Grade 4 is designing an amusement park to explore Florida history through fun, interactive project-based learning. In the first phase, students will conduct research and learn from engineering and architecture experts. Students will apply learning across subject areas, and will work in the I Lab to build their models.

On Wednesday, Grade 4 student Harry Waich proudly introduced his dad, engineer Max Waich, who shared important information about the crucial roles engineers play in solving problems. Mr. Waich explained the steps involved in planning a project, outlining a template for students to follow as they design the amusement park. An interesting element of Mr. Waich's presentation was the work he does in the field of renewable energy; he spoke about types of renewable energy and brought a model of a wind turbine for students to see. He reminded students to persevere, as things don't always work as planned. Through their questions and curiosity, students learned about the challenges engineers face, and the knowledge they must have to practice their profession.
