Scheck Hillel Student Artists Take the Stage

Congratulations are in order to the student-artists (roughly 160!) who participated in this week's Spring Concert, playing to an overflow crowd in the Diener Athletic Center Tuesday evening. Eight student ensembles performed, ranging from our Lower School Chorus (under the direction of Ms. Laura Bass), to four string groups led by orchestra director Ms. Angelica Losada, and three bands directed by Mr. Matt Villa. Repertoire ranged from folk songs to classical and Broadway to pop/rock, with each piece introduced by a student musician. A particular highlight was our top level Symphonic Band's stirring medley from Disney's "The Lion King." After the performance, this year's graduating band seniors presented Mr. Villa with gifts, including an engraved conductors' baton, to mark the completion of seven years of musical mentorship. The music department makes up one third of Scheck Hillel's Jordan Alexander Ressler Arts Program, which also includes theatre and visual arts.
