Students Take on AIPAC's Policy Conference

Among the 18,000 delegates at AIPAC Policy Conference in Washington, DC, 16 were Scheck Hillel students, who lobbied elected officials, members of Congress and White House staff for a strong U.S.-Israel relationship. They were empowered with education, conviction and passion. Thank you to Rabbi Uri Pilichowski and Dr. Hana Barouk for guiding our students as faculty advisors. Scroll down to learn more.

From March 22-26, Scheck Hillel Upper School teachers Rabbi Uri Pilichowski and Dr. Hana Barouk took a group of 16 Scheck Hillel students to the AIPAC Policy Conference in Washington, D.C. AIPAC, the American-Israel Public Affairs Committee, hosts an annual conference of around 18,000 people, ranging from donors to students to Congressmen, to address the American-Israeli relationship and policy. Rabbi Pilichowski led the students throughout the conference, taking them to watch the general assemblies headlined by Vice President Mike Pence and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, as well as other fascinating speakers like Jason Greenblatt, who is writing the peace plan for the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on behalf of the Trump Administration.

The experience was incredible; getting to speak to all these people was so cool and impactful. Hearing their perspectives on various topics and asking questions to gain an understanding of the ways we can impact the American-Israeli relationship, inspired students to continue their involvement with AIPAC.

“My favorite speaker was the Vice President; for someone at such a high position in our government to go ahead and speak positively about Israel at AIPAC, was reassuring,” said David Rayek ‘20.

Rabbi Pilichowski hosts an AIPAC mini session during lunch Monday-Friday in room 115. Feel free to stop by for the latest news.
