Scheck Hillel Double Overtime Win Sends Team to District Finals

The Scheck Hillel boys' varsity basketball team earned a spot in the District Finals after defeating Somerset Academy Central 57-53, Monday, February 12.
For the first time in over five years the Lions will play for the championship after a tough double overtime win against the Warriors. 

Scheck Hillel had four players score in double-digits including junior Aaron Ben-Shmuel who ended the night with a team-high 17 points. Ben-Shmuel made key free throws in both overtime periods to keep the Lions in the game. He went 12-15 from behind the line. 

Sophomore Alan Berkman added 13 points and two assists for the Lions. Senior Benjamin Brener and junior Yaniv Assraf each scored 10 points for the Scheck Hillel. Brener grabbed finished with a double-double after grabbing 14 rebounds in the win. 

Other key contributors for the Lions were sophomore Samuel Taieb (5-points, 4-rebounds) and senior Benjamin Givner (2-points, 4-rebounds, 2-assists).

The Championship game will take place Wednesday, February 14 at 7PM against Miami Country Day School.
