Grade 8 Competes In Science Fair

Are you drinking the right water? How useful are coffee cup accessories? Color my eyes! Sleep to Succeed.

Scheck Hillel Community School’s Grade 8 students filled the Athletic Complex for the school's annual Science Fair on November 21. This year's 2019-2020 event showcased 90 presentations, including creative titles mentioned above and more, applying research and studies in technology, biology, chemistry, physics, statistics and social experiments. The students' skills in collaboration, research, analysis and communication were quite impressive.

A panel of 20 faculty and staff volunteers, including Grade 8 science teacher and Science Fair coordinator Angela Williams, judged and scored projects using a detailed rubric that evaluated areas like design and testability. Twenty-six students advanced to the next round of judging. An additional panel of science teachers will now look at these 26 projects and choose a select few to represent Scheck Hillel at the South Florida Regional Science and Engineering Fair.

Mrs. Williams was impressed with the students’ level of engagement and independence through several months of work. Mazal tov to all participants, and best of luck to those moving onto the next round of competition!
