Updated Name Preserves Legacies, Unifies Brand
The Samuel Scheck Hillel Community Day School/The Ben Lipson Hillel Community High School unveiled our newly updated single name of Scheck Hillel Community School at our 2012 Annual Meeting on May 25, 2012.
As clear as we are about our school pride, we’ve all been uncertain at times about our name. From prospective parents looking us up in directories to Upper School students registering for the SATs or applying to college, we’ve all asked: Is it Hillel? Is it Samuel Scheck? Is it Ben Lipson? Is it Juda and Maria Diener? One thing’s always been for sure:
We know we love this place! But what is it called?
Some have thought us to have many different names or one very long name. That’s why we needed ONE name to reflect our ONE shared vision to serve as the finest Jewish international school.
More than 40 years ago, our school was blessed to have been started in memory of a man ever-committed to the education of children and lifelong learning. As you see in the illustrated timeline below, our school has a beautiful story of how we have preserved not only his name – Samuel Scheck – but also the other great community leaders whose memories are for a blessing and for whom we’ve named divisions of our school, in perpetuity.
As you see, Hillel Community remains at the center of Scheck Hillel Community School. It’s the core of our identity – who we are – enhanced by names of those committed to Jewish education. This school name and the division names preserve legacies while allowing us to have a practical name consistent with our branding and identity strategy, all while upholding deep tradition important to us all.
These updated names are the results of a thoughtful, thorough process involving members of our entire community…input from students, parents, grandparents, alumni, faculty, staff and Board members about our school’s name, reputation and identity. This was conducted in agreement with the families who named divisions of our school. Thank you to those who participated and made all of this possible. Specifically, we thank the Lipson, Diener and Scheck families for partnering with us.
While we’ll continue to post division names on division-specific items, you’ll see our branding initiatives for our single name roll out, which include our school name accompanying our crest – from uniform shirts to our website to other fun ways we can increase visibility and school pride.
This is an exciting sign of our school’s growth, always connecting us to our roots. May these school names inspire learning for a lifetime l’dor v’dor.
